The North Country Farming Network

A Vermont Way of Life

For more than 200 years, small family farms have defined the Vermont way of life, shaping our landscape, providing healthy food, and strengthening local communities.

Today, family farming in Vermont is more important than ever. Issues of food security, the high cost of transporting food long distances, and Vermonters who struggle to make ends meet financially are all areas that are positively impacted when local families grow their own food, preserve food they have purchased locally, or increase their income through marketing farm products.

Farmers Helping Farmers

The North Country Farming Network is a community of farmers (people who are farming on any scale), families, agencies, and businesses committed to reviving and maintaining the base of small farms in northern and central Vermont.

The Farming Network works in partnership to share information and resources, and to help people who are farming on a small scale, whether new or experienced, to get connected and achieve a higher level of success and self sufficiency.

Working Together For Self-Sufficiency

The North Country Farming Network has a variety of programs that are strengthening small farms in Northern and Central Vermont:

  • In partnership with Heifer International, we place high-quality livestock with income-eligible members.
  • We offer training opportunities to help members sharpen their skills, in areas such as animal husbandry, marketing, and food preservation.
  • We offer cooperative marketing, bulk feed purchase, and shared equipment for handling livestock, processing farm products, and preserving food.
